Yunnan police seize 17.58 kg of drugs

KUNMING -- Police have detained two suspected drug traffickers and seized 17.58 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, said authorities of Tengchong in Southwest China's Yunnan province on Monday.
In early May, police received a tip that a man and a woman were planning to transport drugs from Myanmar into China. Police immediately set up an investigation team and dispatched officers to border areas.
Two suspects were detained on May 25 near a gas station in Yingjiang County in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture. Police also seized 17.58 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine.
Yunnan, which borders the Golden Triangle, is a major front in China's battle against drug crime.
Since the beginning of last year, the province has caught 21,000 suspects and seized about 25.54 tonnes of drugs, local authorities said.
