Fujian to host Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed rail

Fujian will later in April host China's fourth high-speed railway that will connect the capital city Fuzhou and the economically dynamic Xiamen.

The 275 kilometers of high rail will make the southeast province seem smaller as it runs every 20 to 30 minutes from either end from 7 am to 9 pm, taking only 1.5 hours each way.

No details were available yet about the price of tickets.

To meet the high passenger flow during the upcoming Shanghai World Expo, three pairs of high speed passenger trains will run between Shanghai and Xiamen during the Expo.

China's first high passenger train - between Beijing and Tianjin opened in 2008, followed by the other two linking Wuhan and Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and Xi'an, in 2010. The four high rails cover all the four positions of the country.

China is expected to become the country with the longest high-speed railway, with 13,000 kilometers by the end of 2012.
