Firefighters try to extinguish a fierce fire in downtown Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province, Wednesday December 21, 2005. The fire started at around 2 pm yesterday in a store located at the intersection of Pinghai Road and Yan'an Road, the city's most popular shopping area, only a few hundred metres away from the West Lake, a famous scenic spot in the city. The fire, propelled by strong winds, engulfed at least six stores on Yan'an Road. The fire was brought under control by 3:40 pm. No casualties have been reported. [Xinhua] |
