A female graduate of Hubei University in Wuhan of Hubei Province is wondering whether having a boyfriend would help or hinder her employment prospects, Chutian Metropolis News reports.

When Xiao Fen, a 21-year-old Chinese language major, went to a job fair in the city on Wednesday, the first question from a recruiter was whether she was dating. When Xiao said no, the recruiter rejected her.

To Xiao's surprise, when she went to another recruiter, she found the pre-condition for offering a job opportunity was no dating.

Recruiters said they wanted to know the dating status of applicants to balance the sexes in their firms.
