Sun worried about China's bad form ( 2003-09-23 09:33)
Chinese soccer team captain
Sun Wen expressed her worry over the squad's World Cup outlook despite their 1-0
defeat of Ghana in Group D in Carson, California, on Sunday.
"I am not satisfied with the team's performance although we won the match,"
the 30-year-old said. "We are not in good form or high spirit."
Sun, who won the Golden Boot award in the last World Cup, also complained
about a slippery pitch for their slumping form.
"The pitch was too wet, which made us hard to control the ball," she said.
Sun, one of the world's finest strikers, said that the partnership between
she and youngster Han Duan was far from effective. "It takes time for us to
become good partners."
Bai Jie, who had played as a left back in the first half, was moved up front
and that made Sun felt better.
"If Bai played up front in the first half, I think we can get better
results."
The Chinese skipper, mobbed by journalists after the match, admitted that she
has felt big pressure in this World Cup.
"We are not what we were four years ago," she said. "But we are happy that we
can still attract a lot of attention. We are very grateful."
