Three more bodies found in flooded coalmine ( 2003-07-19 16:28) (Xinhua)
Chinese rescue workers found bodies of another three miners who had been
trapped beneath a flooded coalmine shaft in Dengfeng City, central China's Henan
Province, on Saturday morning.
Sources from the Henan provincial bureau for the supervision of coal mine
security said the flooding which occurred at the Dongfeng Coal Mine, Baiping
Township, late last Sunday, trapped 21 miners who were working beneath the shaft
at the time.
Bodies of 11 other miners were found in the early morning of Friday.
Seven of the dead miners are locals, five are from central China's Hubei
Province, one from southwest China's Sichuan Province, and one from Yanshi
County of Henan Province.
Operators of Dongfeng Coal Mine, a privately-owned mine which has been
operating for more than 10 years, settled compensation procedures with relatives
of some of the miners killed in the accident, said local sources.
The search is continuing for the remaining 7 miners who are still trapped
beneath the shaft.
