In late autumn, when chrysanthemums burst into golden bloom, the Double Ninth Festival, or Chongyang Festival, arrives. Since ancient times, the chrysanthemum has been cherished as the "flower of longevity" and a symbol of noble spirit in China. Traditional customs of the festival include admiring chrysanthemums, eating chrysanthemum cakes and drinking chrysanthemum wine.

With its brilliant colors capturing the essence of autumn, the flower has long inspired poets and scholars. As one famous line goes, "When the Double Ninth returns, I shall come again to behold the chrysanthemums."

Today, the tradition continues in new forms. Alongside the custom of mountain climbing, people now visit chrysanthemum exhibitions, enjoy chrysanthemum tea and cakes, and spend the day with family. Through the timeless image of this autumn bloom, the festival preserves its ancient wish for health and longevity.
