The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China under the Ministry of Science and Technology has released its 2024 National Innovative City Evaluation Report, with Ordos city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region once again ranked among China's top 100 cities for innovation capacity. This marks the second consecutive year Ordos has earned the honor, underscoring steady progress in building a national innovation-driven city.

In 2024, Ordos focused on developing a first-class innovation ecosystem and positioning itself as a pioneer city for scenario-based applications of new quality productive forces.

The city introduced new policies, including the Ordos Action Plan on Breakthrough Science and Technology Projects and the upgraded "30 New Science and Technology Policies 2.0", to strengthen innovation-driven growth.

Ordos allocated 2.11 billion yuan ($294.28 million) in fiscal science and technology spending in 2024, raising total research and development investment across society to 5.32 billion yuan, with an intensity of 0.91 percent.

Its contribution to the region's R&D growth reached 48.9 percent, the highest in Inner Mongolia. The city also issued the region's first Implementation Plan for Breakthrough Science and Technology Projects, developed high-level research platforms, and attracted new R&D institutions.

Ordos is currently home to 264 R&D institutions, covering key sectors and forming a cluster of innovation platforms that are rapidly transforming scientific advances into industrial applications.
