Zhang Yadong, one of the most iconic producers in the Chinese music industry, has been appointed Chief Music Adviser at Universal Music China, a division of Universal Music Group.

Widely recognized as a visionary whose work has defined the sound of Mandarin pop for more than three decades, Zhang has consistently pushed the boundaries of music production with his forward-looking creative approach.

His appointment represents a significant step in advancing producer-led innovation and strengthening long-term artist development in China's music scene. By leveraging Universal Music Group's global creative community and distribution infrastructure, Zhang will help introduce the next generation of Chinese artists to international audiences.

Having previously worked closely with Zhang during his tenure at EMI, Xu adds: "Zhang Yadong has established a distinctive musical vision and creative methodology that I regard as an invaluable asset to the industry. Over the course of his decades-long career, Zhang has been the creative force behind many of the most defining works in Mandarin pop scene. His long-standing collaboration with Faye Wong, the reigning diva of Chinese pop, produced a series of landmark albums that elevated her to cultural icon status. He also produced influential works for singer-songwriters, such as Pu Shu, Karen Mok and Xu Wei.
