Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year, made landfall near Yangjiang city, Guangdong province, around 5 pm on Tuesday, according to China's Central Meteorological Observatory. The storm packed maximum winds of 137 kph upon landing and was forecast to gradually weaken as it moved inland.

Heavy rain and wind associated with the typhoon were expected to affect more than 10 provinces and regions, including Guangdong and Hainan, over the next two days.

In response to the typhoon, rail services in Hainan province were suspended on Tuesday afternoon. The Hainan Circular High-Speed Railway halted operations at 2:04 pm, followed by the suspension of all Haikou urban rail lines at 2:06 pm.
