Cai Zhisong gallery bridges cultures in Shanghai

A new gallery named after acclaimed sculptor Cai Zhisong was recently opened in Shanghai, aiming to foster closer cultural links between the northern and southern regions, home and abroad.
The Zhisong Gallery, located in the Pudong New Area, welcomed the public with an inaugural show of Cai's sculptures created since 2016. The works belong to his Homeland series, in which Cai has reimagined a world of Eastern aesthetics with modern sensibilities: Traditional motifs such as cranes, deer, bamboo and plum blossoms — symbols deeply rooted in Chinese culture — are rendered with modern materials like stainless steel and resin, imbuing them with fresh vitality.
Going forward, the gallery will show works and hold activities to promote art that reinvent Chinese culture and aesthetics in a globalized context.
