China's national legislature on Friday adopted a law on national parks aimed at establishing a unified, standardized and efficient management system for them.
The law, which takes effect Jan 1 next year, consists of seven chapters and 63 articles. It covers general provisions, planning and establishment, protection and management, participation and sharing, support and supervision, legal liabilities and supplementary provisions.
It emphasizes the integrated protection of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts.
The law requires holistic protection, systematic restoration and comprehensive governance of national parks in line with the characteristics and inherent laws of natural ecosystems.
