Chinese market regulatory bodies have investigated over 20,000 cases involving violations in the meat and edible oil sectors this year, reported CCTV News on Thursday.

This crackdown follows intensified efforts by the State Administration for Market Regulation to tackle fraud in these sectors.

The main issues targeted were adulteration, selling counterfeit products as genuine, false advertising, substandard quality, illegal additives, and false labeling.

So far, inspections have been conducted on 1.56 million meat product businesses, uncovering over 220,000 potential hazards and leading to 19,500 investigations of violations. In addition, more than 2,400 online merchant accounts have been shut down.

In the edible oil sector, over 800,000 businesses have been inspected, with around 6,300 required to make corrections and 782 violations being investigated.
