Festival to gather 77 Chinese, Latin American poets for cultural exchange

The second International Youth Poetry Festival—Special Session for Latin American countries is slated to begin on Sept 15 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province.
A total of 40 poets from 15 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Cuba, along with 37 Chinese poets, will participate in a host of activities such as dialogues, poetry readings and cultural tours, in Shaanxi and Beijing until Sept 21, according to a news conference in Beijing on Monday.
With the theme, “Echoes of Civilizations”, this year’s festival highlights the longstanding and illustrious Chinese civilization, as well as the Maya civilization and Andean civilizations that both China and Latin American nations are deeply rooted in, along with their profound poetry traditions, according to the China Writers Association and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, co-hosts of the festival.
The week-long event aims to enhance international connections among poets, nurture young poets worldwide, and deepen their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary Chinese society, according the news conference.
