In the scorching weather, if you want to find a leisurely and cool place to get close to nature, look no further than Xinghua city in Jiangsu province. Here is a two-day guide for visitors.
On the first day, visit Wanmu Lotus Pond Scenic Area, which is home to endless greenery. This year, many new varieties of lotus flowers and water lilies have been added to the scenic area and are currently in full bloom.
The next stop is Shagou Ancient town, which is quaint, clean and is free of the typical tourist trappings. The ancient town's historical relics are well-preserved, allowing visitors to experience prosperous scenes of the past. Locals drive tens of kilometers to buy the town's popular Shagou fish balls and braised dishes.

The next stop is the Lizhong Water Forest Scenic Spot, with fresh air that will replenish the body. Ride on bamboo rafts and watch as various birds fly alongside you.

After breakfast, head to Xinghua Museum, which resembles a private garden. You will learn about Chinese artist and writer Zheng Banqiao (1693-1765) and Shi Naian, author of the Chinese classic Outlaws of the Marsh, as well as experience the local customs and culture of Xinghua through exquisite pottery, porcelain, and other artifacts.
After leaving Xinghua Museum, go straight to Jindongmen historical block for a stroll. Shops line the old street, and a variety of daily necessities are available.
The former residence of Zheng Banqiao is also near the block, where the simple courtyard embodies the artistic pursuit of elegance of this renowned figure.
Xinghua is known as a water town, so be sure to try out water sports such as water cycling and water motorboats at the water sports training base in the city's Chenbao town.
