To celebrate its 84th anniversary, the Shanghai Children's Library presented a special "Magic Night" on Friday, offering young readers and their families an immersive cultural experience blending reading, exploration and joy.

A light show projected on the library ceiling combined visual art and literature, creating an immersive experience to deepen children's connection with the library's heritage and nurture their love of reading.

Themed "Childish Voices: From Pictures to Lifelong Stories", a special exhibition that charts fifty years of illustrated reading in China was also opened during the celebration. The displays guide visitors from vivid pages to an immersive experience, retracing the evolution of children's literature in the country.

Also on Friday, the Shanghai Children's Library and the Shanghai Society of Library Science hosted an academic forum exploring the theme of children's reading and service innovation. Experts presented their insights on how to enhance access, openness and diversity in children's reading experience at public libraries.

The library highlighted that in May, an activity that preserved the recordings of parent-child story reading of more than 1,100 Chinese families and engaged the participation of 100,000 families won a special nomination prize from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. The federation said the activity showed that the library was encouraging reading and making connections with communities in a special way.

Zhang Wenjun contributed to this story.
