Beijing tightens grip on Taiwan separatists as hundreds of tips pour in
Chinese mainland has received hundreds of tips on "Taiwan independence" separatists, a mainland spokesperson said Wednesday, underscoring Beijing's firm commitment to protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comments at a news conference following Monday's announcement that legal action had been taken against two individuals and an organization from Taiwan involved in pro-independence activities.
Chen said hundreds of leads had been submitted through a dedicated email set up for reporting "Taiwan independence" diehards. "People from both sides of the Taiwan Strait have actively participated in this just cause," he said.
On Monday, authorities imposed punitive measures against two Taiwanese individuals, Shen Pao-yang and Tsao Hsing-cheng, and the organization Kuma Academy, which promotes separatism and pre-war mentalities, after thorough investigation of the tips.
Chen said these actions reflect the will of people across the Strait and serve as a "powerful sanction" against pro-independence forces. "Our determination to safeguard national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity is unshakeable," he said.
Beijing will continue to pursue legal action against those supporting Taiwan's independence, warning that those who persist in separatist provocations will "pay a heavy price."
