The Shanghai Peace Park has successfully moved 115 of its animals to their new home at the Shanghai Zoo, the Shanghai Forestry Bureau announced on Jan 22.
The park, which was built in 1958, was the only park in downtown Shanghai that raised animals such as lions, tigers, monkeys and sika deer. It was closed for reconstruction on Dec 30.
With the approval of the Shanghai Landscaping & City Appearance Administrative Bureau, the park gave the wild animals domesticated and bred on its ecological animal island to Shanghai Zoo for ex situ protection.
