Once herdsmen or farmers living under the poverty line, Tibetan residents from Maldrogungkar county are now living in city buildings decorated in traditional Tibetan style.
In Tongxinyuan residential community at Lhasa economic and technological development zone, 903 people from 224 poor households were relocated there and offered opportunities to be trained in traditional Tibetan handicrafts and later find work in community cooperatives. Instead of migrating far away, local residents can make a living near their homes.
