Top political advisor calls for concerted efforts to advance CPPCC cause

BEIJING - China's top political advisor Wang Yang Thursday called on the new leadership of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to advance the cause of the advisory body under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) .
Wang, the newly elected chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, asked the leadership to adhere to correct political orientation, and take lead in fulfilling their duties, promoting democracy and forming close ties with the people.
Wang made the remarks at the first chairpersons' meeting of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, following his election Wednesday. Twenty-four others were elected vice-chairpersons Wednesday during the annual national political advisory session, which concluded on Thursday morning.
The first meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee also opened Thursday. The meeting will conclude Friday.
The CPPCC is an important organ for multiparty cooperation and political consultation led by the CPC.
