Hebei to control soil erosion in Xiongan New Area

SHIJIAZHUANG -- Authorities in northern China's Hebei Province will take measures to prevent and control soil erosion in Xiongan New Area.
Hebei will strengthen efforts to control soil erosion in the mountain areas and sloping farmlands of Xiongan, as well as improve the ecological environment rehabilitation of small river basins in the new area.
The plan also urges improvements in the monitoring system of the region's water and soil conservation.
Hebei will bring soil erosion on a further 11,000 square kilometers of land under control by 2020 and 32,500 square kilometers by 2030.
Xiongan New Area, covering Xiongxian, Rongcheng and Anxin counties, is about 100 kilometers south of Beijing. In April, the central government announced plans for the new area, which will facilitate the coordinated development of Beijing and the surrounding region.
